How has going to space advanced technology?

With all the money that has been invested in this would it not have been cheaper to have created an anti gravity machine. Not to mention the environmental. I realize that said machine may be impossible but so was a lot of things. IMHO I only see the possibility for space to give, tourism, exploration, more materials, and that cool pen. But only one of those things has come to p in any remarkable way.
